The Normal Heart premiered last night at the Ziegfeld Theater in New York City, and the turn-out didn't disappoint.

As HBO CEO Richard Plepler said last week, HBO has become "a magnet for the best talent to want to come to work." And The Normal Heart, an adaptation of the Tony Award-winning play of the same name about the onset of the HIV-AIDS crisis in New York City in the early 1980s, is the latest example of the network's star power.

Allow us to explain. The Normal Heart is directed by Emmy winner Ryan Murphy, written by Academy Award nominee Larry Kramer and stars Academy Award nominee Mark Ruffalo, Emmy winner Jim Parsons and Academy Award winner Julia Roberts. A perfect storm of industry recognition, if you will.
