CNN to Produce International News for the First Time in Portuguese with Launch of

CNN Interactive launched today the CNN News Group's eighth Web site,, marking the first time the world's news leader has produced news content in Portuguese. IBM has been named as the site's charter sponsor. The CNN Web sites generate more traffic and attract more unduplicated Internet users than any other company's general news and information Web sites. will deliver free to users breaking news, information and event coverage in Portuguese, using headlines linked to brief summaries with multimedia elements. The site will leverage CNN's worldwide newsgathering organization, which includes more than 3,500 journalists, 32 bureaus worldwide and a network of more than 700 broadcast affiliates worldwide.The site's home page will concentrate on the world's top breaking stories, allowing users to navigate to other sections dedicated to news from Latin America, the United States and the rest of the world. This site will offer sports news and four-day weather forecasts for close to 2,200 world cities. A Specials section will focus on some of the world's key news events, offering background and in-depth information. In addition, the site will cover worldwide business and financial news with near real-time figures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the NASDAQ index and the 30-year Treasury bond, as well as stock quotes from the New York Stock Exchange.
