As the chief executive officer of HBO, Richard Plepler leads HBO, the leading premium television group on the planet, with more than 114 million subscribers worldwide and more awards and accolades than any other network in recent memory. This week, Plepler himself was an honoree at two distinguished events – on opposite sides of the country.
On Monday night at New York's Waldorf Astoria, Plepler was inducted into the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame, an annual industry event that honors pioneers, innovators and stars of the electronic arts. Plepler was selected for his leadership and innovative approaches to programming throughout his 21 years at HBO.
“Even though it precedes him, he in a way personifies the best in our programming, which is respect for points of view well-stated,” said Michael Lombardo, President of HBO Programming, earlier this year when the Hall of Fame class was announced.
Meanwhile, Plepler was also honored as a special guest at last night's Oceana’s Partners Award Gala in Los Angeles, along with former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. The annual benefit for Oceana – whose mission is to protect and restore the world’s oceans – was held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, and attended by hundreds of philanthropists, celebrities and ocean advocates.
