Last month, CNN announced the Top 10 Heroes of 2013, an inspiring group who have given selflessly of themselves to a range of worthy causes. CNN also asked viewers to vote for the person they felt deserved the title of Hero of the Year. And at a ceremony held on Tuesday at the Museum of Natural History in New York City, CNN revealed the public’s choice: Chad Pregracke of East Moline, Illinois, who has dedicated his life to cleaning up the Mississippi River and other American waterways. Learn more about how Pregracke defends the planet here.

Once again, CNN's Anderson Cooper hosted the annual CNN Heroes: An All Star Tribute, which airs on CNN Sunday, December 1, at 8:00 p.m. ET. CNN Heroes is a Peabody Award-winning multi-platform campaign that shines a spotlight on individuals who go to extraordinary lengths to serve others. Since its inception, CNN Heroes has received over 50,000 submissions from more than 100 countries and profiled over 200 heroes.
