Ellen’s Cross-Media Moment

Fresh off of her Oscars hosting gig, Ellen is breaking more than just Twitter (in fact, her record-breaking Oscars selfie seen above received more than 3.1 million retweets – which temporarily shut down Twitter – besting the previous holder @BarackObama).

Monday’s live episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show was the highest rated episode in the series' 11-year history – averaging a 4.8 Household rating – and also the highest rated episode with women 18-49 and women 25-54 in the LPM Era (industry term for audience measurement technology introduced during Ellen's 2008-09 season).

In addition to @TheEllenShow currently ranking 12th among the most followed Twitter accounts, the show has also received more than 500,000 new likes on its Facebook page – resulting in more than 13 million total – and the page now ranks as the #1 fastest growing in the TV shows category, according to allfacebook.com.

On the show, Ellen shared her spot in the social limelight with Edgar Martirosyan, the pizza delivery man at the Oscars. Martirosyan stopped by the Ellen set yesterday where he received the $600 Ellen collected in tips, plus another $400. All this social buzz has brought some social good. In celebration of her record-breaking Oscar selfie captured on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, it was announced on yesterday’s show that Samsung is donating $1 for every retweet as of Monday (up to $3 million) and splitting the funds between two charities of Ellen’s choice - St. Jude Children's Hospital and The Humane Society of the United States.
