For us, this summer has been an amazing experience. We were fortunate enough to participate in the Time Warner College Associate Program (TWCAP), which is a selective internship opportunity that offers unique and challenging experiences across the company. Together, we interned with Time Warner's Corporate Communications department.
While learning the ins-and-outs of the corporate communication team was our main focus, the TWCAP also provided us with unique opportunities to attend various seminars with senior Time Warner executives. As part of the communications team, we contributed content to articles on the employee intranet and TimeWarner.com blog, and facilitated projects relating to the corporate events team. Our final projects included research on successful public relations practices and a presentation about an employee event.
From “Lunch n’ Learns” to Business Insight seminars, we got the chance to hear from a wide array of people from across the company. Some of our favorite speakers included: Jeff Bewkes, CEO and Chairman of Time Warner; Jeff Zucker, President of CNN; Gary Ginsberg, Executive Vice President of Corporate Marketing and Communications; and Diane Nelson, President of DC Entertainment and President & Chief Content Officer of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Each of them shared what they do for the company and how they achieved their goals while telling personal (and often quirky) stories. Super fun fact: The summer after his junior year, Jeff Bewkes chauffeured Game of Thrones’ Diana Rigg as part of his internship.
Time Warner also set up an exclusive opportunity for interns to use the on-site Medialab. The Medialab is where Time Warner conducts market research focused on consumer behavior. We got the chance to participate in a focus group, act as moderators and toured the various rooms of the lab. The experience was fun, interactive and memorable.
Another notable event we attended was a Time Warner Day of Impact. The company partnered with Stop Hunger Now, an organization that creates and ships food packages for children and families in need in countries around the world. On our Impact Day, we made 10,000+ meals in less than 2 hours. It was a very uplifting and rewarding experience and was a great example of Time Warner's commitment to community.
The past 10 weeks at Time Warner have been truly extraordinary. Of course, getting the chance to establish meaningful relationships with professionals is a huge takeaway, but there are also smaller moments that we will miss. We’ll miss racing to sushi Wednesdays, having impromptu snack parties, and dancing in a 30 person cupid shuffle line with our fellow interns. Overall, this summer has been a productive, educational and fun experience for us both.
