On Tuesday night at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, family and friends of Kurt Cobain, the late Nirvana frontman, joined HBO executives and others for the premiere of Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck.
Montage of Heck – written, directed and produced by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Brett Morgen – dives into the musician's complicated life using Cobain's own words and images, and is the first documentary to be made with cooperation of his family. Daughter Frances Bean Cobain served as an executive producer and attended the premiere with her mother, Courtney Love.
Since its world premiere at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, the documentary has been extremely well-received by family, friends and critics alike. As one reporter wrote, “Montage did the hardest thing a documentary can do – not just tell a story but collapse the time and distance between subject and audience."
