DC Marks an Icon's 75 'Wonder'-ful Years
Proving that age really is just a number, Warner Bros. and DC today launched #WonderWoman75, a year-long celebration of one of the world's best-known superheroes.
Those looking to wish the star-spangled heroine a Happy Birthday will have to get in line:
“Wonder Woman is a legend around the world and one of the most valuable franchises at our studio, and we’re thrilled to celebrate this anniversary,” said Kevin Tsujihara, Chief Executive Officer, Warner Bros.
“Wonder Woman has long stood with Batman and Superman in the trinity of DC’s most iconic Super Heroes, but she also stands alone as a symbol of equality, justice and female empowerment and is more relevant today than ever,” said Diane Nelson, President of DC Entertainment, President of Warner Bros. Consumer Products, and President and Chief Content Officer of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.
Debuting in 1941 when female superheroes were decidedly rare, the celebration begins today with a new commemorative logo (above). The heroics will continue next week with the publication of Wonder Woman #1 as part of the ongoing DC Universe: Rebirth, while a "Wonder Woman 75" panel will be held at San Diego Comic-Con in July along with the display of a life-size Wonder Woman invisible jet.
New book releases, toys and products -- and even curated Spotify playlists -- will continue over the next year, culminating in the release of the first stand-alone Wonder Woman feature film on June 2, 2017. Starring Gal Gadot and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Patty Jenkins, the film also stars Chris Pine, Robin Wright and Connie Nielsen.
