CNN Takes You to Virtual Darkness

10 Aug 2017 - By TW Staff

For the first time since 1918, a total solar eclipse will hit the United States mainland August 21. If your area is not in the “path of totality”— the rare phenomenon when the earth, moon and sun align, resulting in darkness—don’t despair. CNN is planning comprehensive coverage of the eclipse of the century.

CNN will live stream the eclipse as it advances from Oregon to South Carolina August 21. As if observing this once-in-a-lifetime celestial event isn’t amazing enough, CNN will enhance the experience using 360° video in 4k resolution and virtual reality. So even if you’re not in the direct path of the eclipse, you’ll be able to enjoy it virtually. In addition, Courageous—CNN’s award-winning brand studio—will produce live ads in a partnership with Volvo during the event. The “Racing the Sun” ads will feature experts—including a retired astronaut and Egyptologist—speaking about the significance of this astronomical phenomenon.

CNN’s eclipse coverage starts in 10 days. In the meantime, be sure to check out for more information on CNN's Eclipse of the Century.
