Your New York Comic Con Preview
New York Comic Con may be 10 days away, but we’re already gearing up for the festivities and you should too. Details of the epic annual event— October 5-8 at New York City’s Javits Center—are beginning to trickle in. Here’s a sampling of what’s in store so you can plan accordingly.
As you would expect from the comics juggernaut, DC Entertainment will be a major presence at NYCC. Your first stop is the DC booth in the South Concourse (#1915), where original digital series, DC All Access offers live up-to-the-minute news, exclusives and talent interviews throughout the weekend. If you can’t make it to New York, watch it on DC Entertainment’s YouTube Channel and the DC Comics Facebook page. Or download the DC All Access App and watch it on the go.
Next, create your own photo souvenir at DC’s ever-popular interactive green screen experience. There, you can “get your cape on” with DC Super Hero Girls, celebrate the 25th anniversaries of Harley Quinn and Batman: The Animated Series, unite with the cast of Justice League to save the world or explore the terrors of the Dark Multiverse with the evil Batmen of Dark Nights: Metal.
Speaking of which, Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo—creators of the new Dark Nights: Metal series—give fans the inside scoop during a panel Friday, October 6. Joining them are contributors to the New Age of DC Heroes: writers Steve Orlando, Justin Jordan, Frank Tieri, James Tynion IV, Robert Venditti and Joshua Williamson. Not only will they discuss the secrets of the Dark Multiverse, but some of the new heroes spinning out of that world.
You may recall the buzz earlier this year around the Doomsday Clock announcement. The new title brings the DC and Watchmen universes together for the first time. Meet Geoff Johns, the legendary writer behind the highly-anticipated series, at a panel Friday evening on the main stage. TIME magazine book critic and celebrated author Lev Grossman (The Magicians) moderates this talk that features a rare look at the incredible art from Johns’ longtime collaborator Gary Frank. This event is not to be missed, and will also stream live on the DC YouTube channel and the DC Comics Facebook page.
For those of you looking to escape the confines of the Javits Center, The Get Animated Invasion offers the perfect diversion. Warner Bros. Consumer Products, in collaboration with cartoon streaming service Boomerang and retail chain BoxLunch, transform a SoHo storefront into an immersive cartoon wonderland featuring all your favorite characters. Look out for Wile. E. Coyote’s cliff, snoop around Scooby-Doo’s Spooky Woods, race around Tom and Jerry’s house and more at this interactive installation.
You’ll want to arrive with an empty stomach as the Milk & Cream Cereal Bar will serve Flintstones-themed ice cream cereal treats. It all happens at 107 Grand Street in New York October 6-8. Reservations are required, so make yours now by visiting https://www.getanimatedinvasion.com/.
This is but a mere highlight of New York Comic Con goodness, so be sure to check the full schedule for more. We’ll see you there!
