'Shazam!' – Sometimes You Have to Grow Up in a Hurry
Some say we all have a superhero inside of us, just waiting to bust out. In the case of 14-year-old Billy Batson, that phrase is actually very true. On Friday, April 5, Shazam! premieres in theaters nationwide, and we’ll all discover a new type of superhero.
(Fun Fact: The name “Shazam” is an acronym of the ancient gods and historical figures Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles and Mercury.)
The film, starring Asher Angel, Zachary Levy and Mark Strong, tells the tale of a streetwise 14-year-old foster kid who can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam, courtesy of an ancient wizard, of course. He’s just a boy, but now he’s a boy with a ripped, godlike body and amazing superpowers – powers that he has no idea what to do with. And he will need every one of those powers to battle the evil Dr. Sivana.
David F. Sandberg (Lights Out) is directing from a script by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke, and Peter Safran is producing.
