Classic movies always mattered to TCM host Ben Mankiewicz – even before he understood why. But when he decided to make his passion a profession and forge a career in Hollywood, his dreams didn’t manifest as quickly as he had hoped.

He knocked on dozens of news station doors, demo tape in hand. He auditioned for every possible role as on-air talent. Rejection met him at every turn. Then finally, his interests, talents and personality converged one fateful day at an audition for TCM.

“Of all the 129 jobs I went for, this was by far the best one,” said Mankiewicz.

In this edition of “Conversations,” Mankiewicz shares the ups and downs of his road to TCM where he became only the second host hired in the network's history.

Be sure to catch Ben and all the lights, cameras and action at the 10th annual TCM Classic Film Festival, April 11-14 in Los Angeles.
