Lights, camera, action! CNN is going to ‘The Movies’
Lights, camera, action! CNN is taking viewers to “The Movies.” Premiering on July 7, “The Movies” is a new, six-part CNN Original Series that explores the evolution of American cinema – looking at cultural, societal and political shifts that have helped shape the film industry.
From “Casablanca” to “Harry Potter,” the series channels CNN’s popular Decades series and features interviews from A-List actors, directors, producers, historians and critics. The first two-hour installment examines the Eighties, with subsequent episodes focusing on other time periods.
CNN is also producing a six-part companion podcast starring entertainment experts Lisa France, Sandra Gonzalez and Kristen Meinzer to discuss each decade’s groundbreaking films and talk to some of today’s biggest stars. The podcast debuts July 8, with new episodes available each week on your favorite podcast platform.
To help fans get ready for the “The Movies” launch, CNN is also creating a pop-up video store at CNN’s offices in New York, Hudson Yards, that will be open to the public on July 7. The fan experience includes giveaways, concessions, photo ops and much more.
Excited for the premiere? Well, you’re not alone. CNN anchors Wolf Blitzer, Jake Tapper and Don Lemon all got in on the fun – recreating iconic movie scenes to help promote the series.
Wolf Blitzer and Jake Tapper played a duet on the famous walking piano from the 1988 movie “Big.”
And, Don Lemon even paid homage to John Travolta’s iconic strut in 1977’s “Saturday Night Fever.”
Be sure to watch “The Movies” on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CNN, and check out the podcast, starting Monday, July 8.
