HBO Latino launches competition to find best Latino comedians in America
Calling all cómicos y comediantes! HBO Latino is searching for the best Latino talent in stand-up comedy. They’re partnering with the New York Latino Film Festival (NYLFF) this summer to launch “Latinos Stand-Up,” a competition designed to showcase emerging Latino voices in the industry. HBO has been the founding partner of NYLFF since its inception in 1999.
The top five comedians will perform at a live competition at NYLFF, and one lucky winner will be chosen on Friday, Aug. 16. The winner will have the opportunity to make a big-screen comedy debut on HBO Latino’s upcoming comedy special, “Entre Nos.”
The host for this year’s festival is actress, comedian and writer Gina Brillón.
“When I was 17, I got my first break at a local stand-up comedy contest and haven’t looked back since,” said Brillón. “I encourage everyone to enter and take advantage of this great opportunity to represent Latin comedic talent."
Brillón’s latest comedy special, “Gina Brillón: Easily Offended,” premieres on HBO Latino on Friday, Aug.16 at 9:30 p.m. ET.
