WarnerMedia is proud to celebrate Pride and commemorate Stonewall

It’s been 50 years since the Stonewall Riots took place in New York City. But the celebration during the month of June is not for the riots, but for what the riots sparked… change… and a new movement.

Business units across WarnerMedia participated in a number of events throughout the month, including workshops, screenings, speaker series and of course, parades. And in a first-ever coordinated effort, LEAGUE, AT&T ‘s employee business group, along with WarnerMedia’s business resource groups developed a site to commemorate and educate colleagues about the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots.

WarnerMedia is proud to celebrate Pride month, its history and the LGBTQ+ community throughout the month of June and all year long. Because Pride history is our history.

Here’s a recap of just some of the ways WarnerMedia celebrated Pride.


Los Angeles and New York

Our teams in Los Angeles marched in the Pride parade on June 9. AT&T, WarnerMedia and its key brands dedicated their enthusiastic support and participation in this historic moment for the LGBTQ+ community, unapologetically showcasing what an ideal world looks like – a community where all people “Lead with Love.” The Celebrity Grand Marshall for the LA Pride Parade was none other than Ryan O’Connell - writer, producer and star of Stage 13’s new short form series “Special.”

In New York, where World Pride took place on Sunday, June 30, more than 400 employees marched in the parade on behalf of WarnerMedia and its brands. WarnerMedia’s float included, for the first time, a fun Kiss Cam, sparking celebratory interactions with spectators and marchers all along the route.  


The vibrant float design was also reflected in Pride pins that were distributed across WarnerMedia brands and locations. The multifaceted heart pin mirrors “Lead with Love” messaging and the colors celebrate and represent the variety of people that make up the LGBTQ+ community.  

HBO’s Human By Orientation is a platform that highlights the universal humanity of all people regardless of ethnicity, orientation or gender identity. The campaign encourages the powerful dialogue needed to humanize the LGBTQ+ community as multifaceted individuals with experiences that celebrate otherness. Human By Orientation held it’s first ever PRIDE concert in Brooklyn on June 25. The event featured performances by DJ Timo Weiland, Leland, Betty Who, and Normani!



TurnOut Atlanta held its second annual RainbowCon event at the Techwood campus. The half-day included thought-provoking panels, engaging speakers, a documentary screening and much more. RainbowCon wrapped up just like its inaugural event last year, with a fun party for all to celebrate Pride. 

For the last week in June, employees and Atlanta residents driving by the Techwood campus were able to see the mansion illuminated with the colors of the rainbow, an image reminiscent of the White House in 2015 following the passage of marriage equality.


Queer City: A CNN Experience

WarnerMedia teamed up with BMW of North America and Procter & Gamble to present “QUEER CITY: A CNN Experience” – an exhibit to celebrate the landmark moments in New York City’s LGBTQ+ history. The 5,000 square-foot exhibit developed by Courageous Studios – CNN’s award-winning brand studio – focused on the personal experiences of what life was like for a queer person in New York City over the past eight decades.

The display featured nearly 300 artifacts to personify those experiences, including personal photos, home videos, clothing, letters and journals. At the center of the exhibit, was a screening room featuring four films created by CNN about WorldPride, including "Out of the Shadows" – a film collaboration between Courageous and P&G.

OUT@WarnerMediaUK hosted the LGBTQ+ Helpline charity Switchboard at the Grays Inn Road offices. Helpline shared the brilliant work they do supporting the LGBTQ+ community, as well as showed a glimpse of the charity’s rich history in its 45 years of operation. OUT@WarnerMediaUK also ran a raffle to raise money for the charity, collecting over £350 worth of donations.

Pride in London came to Warner House to launch their TV ad campaign for 2019. The launch event featured the cast and crew behind the making of the advertisement as well as the volunteers who help run Pride in London. The new ad premiered on Friday June 21.

Latin America

Latam built consciousness about the LGBTQ+ community and marked the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. They branded their offices, offered open spaces to learn and encourage discussions, and invited experts from the media industry to offer their insights. This first-time Pride celebration had a huge presence and set the bar very high for future years.
