Julio Torres Gets In ‘Shape’ for His First HBO Comedy Special
Comedian, writer and actor Julio Torres is bringing his groundbreaking style of comedy to HBO with his debut special “My Favorite Shapes,” premiering Saturday, Aug. 10 at 10:30 p.m. ET.
In the aptly-named special, Torres uses a conveyor belt to create a steady feed of objects, from the everyday to the truly bizarre, for his unique musings. It’s a fresh approach that gives hysterical backstories to items ranging from an oval that wishes he were a circle to a self-conscious cactus.
Torres has been making audiences laugh since 2016, when he started writing on “Saturday Night Live,” frequently collaborating with renowned comedian and producer Fred Armisen on hilarious sketches such as the memorable “Avatar”-themed “Papyrus”. Armisen and Torres most recently collaborated on the critically acclaimed HBO series “Los Espookys.”
As a standup, Torres was named one of Variety’s 10 Comics to Watch, a New Face of the Just for Laughs Montreal Comedy Festival, and has performed on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and “Late Night with Seth Meyers.”
Executive produced by Armisen and Lorne Michaels, “My Favorite Shapes” will be available for streaming on HBO Now, HBO GO, and HBO On Demand, in addition to the Aug. 10 HBO premiere.
