And the award goes to… Nominations for the Kids BAFTAs and Emmys are in!
Nominations are in for both the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Children’s Awards and the International Emmy Kids Awards, with Cartoon Network, Warner Bros. Animation and Boomerang all among the nominees.
“The Amazing World of Gumball” scored three nominations for Best Director, Best Animation and Best Writing Team. What’s more, two of the four spots in the Best International Animation category have been claimed with Cartoon Network’s new original series, “Apple and Onion” and Warner Bros. Animation’s “Teen Titans Go!.” Plus, for the first time, Cartoon Network submitted its own in-house animation, “A Whale’s Tale” – part of a collaboration for the Sky and BBC project called Hope Works. The film, nominated in the Short Form category, focuses on a young girl helping to clean the ocean of plastic. The BAFTA Children’s Awards will take place on Dec. 1 in London.
Also recently announced were the International Emmy Kids Awards, with Cartoon Network and Boomerang receiving three nominations in the Kids Animation category. Cartoon Network Asia Pacific’s “Lamput,” a production for Cartoon Network, Boomerang and POGO channels internationally, marks the first-ever Indian animation to be shortlisted for a Kids Emmy. “Irmão do Jorel” ("Jorel's Brother"), created by Juliano Enrico and co-produced by Cartoon Network Brazil and Copa Studios, also received a nod – its second this year having already been awarded Best Animated Series by the prestigious 2019 Quirino Awards, which recognize the best in Ibero-American animation. Last but not least is Boomerang’s global acquisition, “Grizzy and the Lemmings,” which comes from a great partnership with France-based Hari Productions. Winners of the International Emmy Kids Awards will be announced during MIPTV in Cannes, France, on March 31.
