MEDIA ACCESS: Master of Ceremonies, compiler and ex-Billboard AssociatePublisher Jim Beloff is an expert on all things ukulele and is availablefor interviews. He has released three CDs of his own ukulele music andwritten three books on the instrument (his most recent, The Ukulele: AVisual History, was published last year). A recording of Beloffaccompanied by Lyle Ritz ("For The Love Of Uke") is included on LEGENDS OFUKULELE.

BACKGROUND: Always ready to fill the voids in consumers' recordcollections, Rhino Records proudly released the long-overdue LEGENDS OFUKULELE. The first-ever comprehensive collection of the most memorabletunes ever executed on the ukulele, the follow-up to the remarkablyunsuccessful LEGENDS OF ACCORDION.

Proof that size doesn't matter, the ukulele has been the medium forvirtuoso performances for more than 70 years; the recordings on LEGENDS OFUKULELE range from 1928 to 1998. The 18 tracks include performances fromArthur Godfrey and master instrumentalist Roy Smeck that have never beforebeen released on CD.

Of course Tiny Tim's "Tip-Toe Thru' The Tulips With Me," is here - surelythe "Stairway To Heaven" of ukulele music. But beyond this are pre-Wartunes from the likes of George Formby ("My Ukulele"), an island contingentincluding Ohta San's "Little Grass Shack" and Johnny Ukulele's "HawaiianWar Chant," as well as revivalist (and noted session player for The BeachBoys and Sonny & Cher) Lyle Ritz's hot jazz take on "Lulu's Back In Town."These and such ditties as the Ukulele Orchestra Of Great Britain's cover of"Johnny B. Goode" will make you wanna uke!
